William "Bill" Alexander Russ, age 80, of Cherryville, formerly of Las Vegas, died on November 7, 2013, at Peak Resources. Bill was born on August 20, 1933 in Cleveland Co., the son of the late Irvin E. Russ, Sr. and Mae Barrett Russ. He graduated from Waco High School. Bill worked for Nuclear Test Site in Las Vegas, Nevada as an iron-worker, was a member of the Masonic lodge, and a Shriner. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved NASCAR. He retired in 1989 due to health problems and moved back to N.C. in 2006.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Edward Russ, Jr.; and a sister, Betty Russ Dover.
Survivors include his step-mother, Christine Russ of Cherryville; son, Rich Russ of Florida; daughters, Pam of Michigan, and Pattie and Karen of Florida; brothers, Kenneth Russ (Louise) of Shelby and Garry Russ (Dianna) of Cherryville; sisters, Ann Brown (Wayne) of McLeansville and Charmaine Laney (Roger) of Cherryville; brother-in-law, George Dover of Cherryville; sister-in-law Louise Russ of Greensboro; special devoted friends, Sam and Betty Stillwell of Nevada; and several special nieces and nephews.
A loving thank you goes to his brother-in-law, George Dover and his four daughters, Dianne Dixon, Amelia Wilson (Pressley, Jr.), Ginger Norman (Donnie), and Robin Davis (Wesley) for all the love, support, and care that you have given Bill since he has been back in N.C. May God bless each of you.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 3:00PM at City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Len Byers officiating. Full Masonic Rites will be performed by Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F&A.M. The family will receive friends at various times at the home of George Dover.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 107 N Cedar St, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
