William Burl “Bill” Rippy, age 80 of East Main Street, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Gastonia Health and Rehab Center. He was born May 29, 1943 in Lincoln County to the late Bud and Alma Sue Kester Rippy.
Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church of Cherryville where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and simply being outdoors. Bill also enjoyed antique collecting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Rippy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Chambers Rippy, daughters, Jeana Lynn Rayfield (Kipp), and Amy Rippy Cook; grandchildren, Chase Rayfield, Casey Rayfield (Lauren), Chressy Rayfield, Carissa Rayfield, Colby Rayfield, Caleb Rayfield, and Hannah Cook; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Rayfield, Judson Rayfield, and Elliot Rayfield.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, September 4, 2023 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Casey Rayfield and Pastor Matt Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:15 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
