Walter Rayburn Thompson, age 67, of W. Academy St passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at his residence. He was born July 28, 1951 in Gaston County to the late James Eugene and Bonnie Edna Craig Thompson. His passion was fishing.
Survivors include his four daughters, Tammy Carpenter and husband, Scot of Cherryville, Renee Smith of Dallas, Christy Willis and husband, Jimmy of Cherryville, and Corey Short and husband, Chris of Lawndale; sister, Nancy Stallings and husband, Larry of Newton; brothers, Hubert Thomson and wife, Judy of Waco, and Buford Thompson of Cherryville; grandchildren, Zackary, Ethan, T.J., Austin, Tyler, Jonathon, Brittany, Chandler, Taylor, Hayden, and Caitlyn; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Colton, and Sophia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Ken Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the funeral home.
