Steve Wilkinson

Baine Stephen “Steve” “Poppy” Wilkinson, age 79, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023, at his residence. He was born July 26, 1944, in Lincoln County to the late Adley Baine Wilkinson and Bonnie Walker Wilkinson.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Crouse Wilkinson; and his son, Slade Wilkinson.

He is survived by his son Shea Wilkinson and fiancée, Melissa Miller; his grandsons, Austin Wilkinson and wife, Olivia Tess Wilkinson, Cain Wilkinson and Mary Beth Wyatt; and his great grandson, Cohen Slade Wilkinson.

Steve loved his family; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also a member of First Baptist Church. Steve retired from Carolina Freight, where he worked in the computer center, assigned to production control. He was also a retired truck driver for Lowes. He was a 50-year member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 AF & AM. He was a member of the Charlotte Scottish Rite bodies. Steve loved attending car shows, working in his yard, and mowing. He was also an avid Braves fan.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, at 12 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. The body will lie in state from 10:30-11:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the burial at the cemetery.
