Shirley Smith

Shirley Evelyn Stewart Smith, age 87 of Cherryville, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 at her residence.  She was born August 24, 1935 in Gaston County to the late John Emmitt and Mamie Clanton Stewart. Shirley was a graduate of Clover High School. She enjoyed watching classic western movies, especially John Wayne westerns.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Earl Smith; son, Leon Mauney; granddaughter, Amanda Eller; sister, Ellen Stewart Ferguson; and half-sister, Laura Mae Bowen.

Survivors include her son, Robin Keith Mauney; daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Ira Bowen; grandchildren, Ricky Eller, Amie Bowen, and Chelsie Bowen; great grandchildren, Bryson, Jaxon, Ari, Kimber, Emory, and Mila; and cousin, Louise Rimmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 23, 2022, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Ricky Sigmon officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Gastonia.  Her family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
