Sherrill Pennell

Sherrill Stratton Pennell, age 79 of Sparrow Springs Road, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 at Robin Johnson Hospice House.  She was born January 2, 1943 in Alamance County, NC to the late Melvin Reeves and Martha Ellen Sharpe Stratton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Somers; and brother, Roger Stratton.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 59 years, Rev. William Ray Pennell; daughters, Anita Gail and Rene Wike and husband, Rodney; grandsons, Justin and Bryson Wike; and sister-in-law, Linda Stratton.

Sherrill was a devoted Christian and a faithful Pastor’s wife.  She served in such a unique way with children and youth, with much love and patience.  She loved cats and dogs, especially her Australian Shepherd, Patch.  She was a good friend to many, helping any way she could and volunteering her loving husband Ray when she couldn’t.  Remembered most by her family for being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, always supporting and encouraging each to be themselves and follow their dreams.  Our own version of a real life “I Love Lucy,” she will be greatly missed.  As her dad would always say, “See you in the funny papers.”

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Dr. Wade Dellinger officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte.
