Sheila Sue Melton Lanier, age 57 of Dallas, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at her residence. She was born December 12, 1962 in Mecklenburg County to R.J. Melton, Sr. and the late Mildred Haney Hall. Sheila was an excellent mother and homemaker. She had a gift of always being able to find a good deal. She enjoyed yardsales, thrift stores, and gambling.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Wayne Lanier, Sr.; and brother, William “Leebo” Melton.
Survivors include her sons, Kenny Lanier, Jr. and wife, Mandi, and Kent Lanier; grandchildren, Aubrey and Koby Lanier; father, R.J. Melton; siblings, Kimberly Bell and husband, Jr., Mark Rabon, Scott Rabon, Robert Melton, Kim Burns, and Renee Bolick; mother-in-law, Pansy Doby; best friends, Angie Blake and Brenda Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services. She will lie-in-state from 12:00 to 12:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face coverings will be required.
