Sandra Stallings

Sandra Kay Shumate Stallings of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Testa Family Hospice House at the age of 75. She was born May 22, 1943 in Gaston County to the late Stewart Thomas Shumate, Sr. and Ruby Carpenter Shumate. Sandra was a graduate of Cherryville High School and UNC Women’s College in Greensboro. She worked in Charlotte at Aetna Property and Casualty, Travelers Insurance, Cameron Harris and Company, Wachovia Insurance Servicing, and Wells Fargo Servicing before retiring in1998 and again in 2017.

Sandra was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and attended Carmel Baptist Church since 2004. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed shagging, beach music, flowers, gardening and spending time with her great niece, Emma Grace. She also loved to help others and give to her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stewart Thomas Shumate, Jr. and her sister-in-law, Marlene Shumate.

Survivors include her sister, Beverly Shumate Bridges (Rodney) of Cherryville; nieces, Erika Clawson Sigmon (David) of Fayetteville and Stephanie Carol Shumate of Wilmington; step nieces, Angela Bridges Wilkinson of Kings Mtn and Buffy Bridges Ramsey (Dustin) of Lawndale step nephew, Eric Bridges (Crystal) of Texas; great niece, Emma Grace Sigmon; step great niece, Lauren Bridges; step great nephews, Matt Bridges, Alex Bridges, Austin Wilkinson, Cain Wilkinson, Ethan Woods, and Mason Ramsey; special mom, Tressie Bridges; special aunt, Evelyn Carpenter; numerous cousins; special neighbors, Dottie Messina, Diane Mallon, and Marty & Kris Hanes; as well as her God-Dogs Lola, Henry, and Cookie.

The family will receive friends 2:30 -3:15 pm on Saturday June 15, 2019 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cherryville. A Memorial Service in remembrance of Sandra will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday June 15, 2019 with Rev. Dale Hendricks officiating.

Burial will be private.
