Russell Coleman

Russell Eugene Coleman, age 93, of Marys Grove Road, passed away peacefully from natural causes Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Somerset Court. He was born May 5, 1927, in Burke County to the late Eugene Coleman and the late Ruth Roper Hines.

Mr. Coleman was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Sam Club. He was a member of Lovelady Lodge 670 A.F. & A.M. and supported the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Zeta Whisnant Coleman; second wife, Joan Benton-Coleman; sons, Leland Coleman and Roger Coleman; and daughter,

Deborah Coleman Curlee.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Cheryl Coleman Helgestad; grandchildren, Nancy Slaughter, Jennifer Sanders and husband Richard, Stephanie Garrett and husband Cliff, Maggie Scronce and husband Jake, Cody Coleman, and Jade Helgestad; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Coleman will lie-in-state Tuesday, July 7, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Drexel Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face coverings will be required.
