Raeford Lee “Rae” Eaker, age 87, of Cohn Eaker Road, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born August 29, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late John Russell and Callie Mae Hastings Eaker.
“Rae,” as he was known by his friends, was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam. While stationed in Germany he met and married his wife of 35 years. They had one son, Rodney, and enjoyed traveling as a family. After his military retirement Rae and family returned to his family farm in Lincoln County where he worked at Vermont American, Lincolnton. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. His great joy was frying hush puppies for the church annual fish fry fundraiser.
He was preceded in death by loving wife, Ingeborg Flindt Eaker; a brother, John Paul Eaker , and sister-in-law Elvira Rioux Eaker.
He is survived by his son, Rodney Eaker; niece, Nita Eaker Jost (Jurgen); Nephew, Jerald Eaker (Hunter); several great-nieces and great nephews.
Raeford will Lie-In-State from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services. His family will not be present during this time.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Thursday June 10, 2021 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Reverend Alice Day officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
