Plato Wesley Hedgpeth, 92 of Dallas Cherryville Hwy, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Robin Johnson Hospice House. He was born on April 5, 1922 in Lincoln County to the late Dorse Pinkney and Jenny Rose Liggins Hedgpeth. He was a member of Lincolnton Church of God and was retired from Doran Mills. Plato proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed yard work, fixing up birdfeeders, gardening and planting flowers, and riding his bicycle. He was a very active man and loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Margie Whitworth Hedgpeth; daughter, Phyllis Sain and husband, Randy of Cherryville; and granddaughter, April Preslar and husband, William of Stanley.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Dr. Richard A. King, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Cherryville American Legion, Post 100. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
