Phil Smiley

Phillip W. Smiley age 73 of Harrelson Rd. passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at his residence. He was born September 29, 1944 in Cherokee County, SC to the late Vera Blanton and Phillip W. Smiley Sr. Phil was a member of Second Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard and was a plant manager for 26 years with Travis Knits. Phil was a member of the NRA and a gun enthusiast. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and traveling. His greatest pleasure in life was being with his family.

Phil is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon Carpenter Smiley; children, Jeff Smiley and wife, Cathy of Stanley, Deanna Smiley Cerwin and husband, Todd of Shelby, Kevin Smiley and wife, Marsha of York, and Wesley Brown and wife, Dorothy of Cherryville; grandchildren, Grace and Graham Smiley, Phillip and Taylor Cerwin, Sophie, Marshall, and Lydia Smiley, Jenny, Marcus, and Noah Brown; sisters, Pat Hines of Forest City, Julie and Roy Dean Davis of Gastonia, Mary and Maurice McKinney of Florida, Joanne and Kenneth Vassey of Shelby, and Nancy and Barry Childers of Blacksburg; and his best friend, Hank, his boxer.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
