Paul James King, age 62, of Dale Dr. died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 5, 1951 in Forsyth County, a son of the late Alvis King and Virginia Cook Morrow. He graduated from South Dade High School in Homestead, Fl. Paul was a retired police officer from Cherryville Police Department. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Capadano DE-1093 and a member of the VFW. Paul was also formerly employed by the NC Department of Corrections in Lincoln County. He was a NC Certified Sniper, NC Firearms Instructor, and his greatest passion was target shooting.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sharon Hamrick King; daughters, Shannon King Richardson (James), and Mellissa King Fecteau (David) both of Cherryville; son, Christopher King (Heather) of Cherryville; brothers, Pete Hamrick (Sandy) of Cherryville, and Louie Troutman of Lexington; sister, Pam Temple (Paul) of Lexington; and grandchildren, Kyle and Devan Richardson, Logan Noles, Michael Sweat, Bailey Fecteau, and Zane King all of Cherryville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 7:30 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Full military honors will be conducted. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
