Patsy Hayes Heavner died peacefully on September 5, 2022 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC with her granddaughter by her side. Patsy was born on February 5, 1929 in Cherryville, NC. She was the daughter of Charles Lafayette Hayes and Alma Dellinger Hayes of Cherryville. She graduated from Lowell High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. Patsy was the loving wife of Donald Heavner, Sr. and they were married for 39 years until his death in 1988. Pat and Don lived in Gastonia, Charlotte, and later moved to their beautiful home on Lake Wylie that they built together. Patsy’s career began with P&N Railroad and she later retired from Seaboard Coastline Railway. She was a member of the former Purcell United Methodist Church where she was extremely active in organizing the Senior Citizen Group. She also belonged to the Silver Bells Senior Line Dancing group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Heavner, Sr.; sons, Hayes Scott Heavner and Donald “Gene” Heavner; and brothers, Charles, Richard, and Bain Hayes.
Patsy is survived by her only granddaughter, Jennifer Heavner (D.J. Hyrne) and great-grandson, Nicholas Cheves; sisters, Martha S. Hayes, Alma Hayes Biagini, and Linda E. Hayes; and sisters-in-law, Betty H. Kiser and Glenda L. Heavner. Nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends also survive to honor the memory of Patsy H. Heavner.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Gerald Ramsey.
