Norman Warlick

July 23, 1926 — August 24, 2017

Norman Gene "Wa" Warlick passed away peacefully on August 24, 2017 at Wendover Hospice Center surrounded by his four sons. Mr. Warlick was born on July 23, 1926 to George Clifton and Dennice Yelton Warlick of Hickory, NC. He was educated in the Hickory city schools, received a Bachelor's degree from Lenoir Rhyne University, a Master's degree from Appalachian State University and was certified as a lay preacher in the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Warlick served in the US Army Air Corp in World War II and in the US Air Force in the Korean War.

Mr. Warlick taught in the public school system for seven years primarily in Cherryville. He was employed at Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation for 35 years where his last position was Director of Profit Planning.

Mr. Warlick was an active member of the Cherryville Rotary Club for over 50 years where he server as club treasurer for 13 years and was club president twice. He was a member of St John's Lutheran Church for over 40 years and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville since 1994. There he served as elder, member of the chancel choir and was treasurer for several church organizations.

Mr. Warlick was a member of the Cherryville Country Club where he served as treasurer for over 20 years.

Mr. Warlick is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Rebecca Anne Miller; four sons, David Franklin, Donald Emory, Richard "Dickie" Warlick, Dennis Clifton; and six grandchildren

Mr. Warlick, his four sons and two brothers all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition, Mr Warlick founded and led the first Cub Scout Pack in Cherryville and served as Boy Scout Master to dozens of boys including eight Eagle Scouts.

Norman and Anne traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and visited every state in the union.

Funeral services will be held on August 31st at First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville at 4:00pm. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Norman's life afterward in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 107 W. Academy St. Cherryville NC 28021 to the building, endowment, or choir fund.
