Mary Hartsell

January 21, 1933 — July 10, 2015

Mary Jo Flowers Hartsell, age 82 of S. Elm St. went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville. She was born on January 21, 1933 in Gaston County to the late Conley James and Wayburn Gladys Rhyne Flowers. Mary Jo was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and loved her church family. She was a member of the Ernest Workers Sunday School Class, Circle of Hope, Friendship Club, and Care Team, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mary Jo also loved reading and loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Kenneth Hartsell, Sr.; son, John Kenneth "Skeet" Hartsell, Jr.; and brother, James Alan "Bud" Flowers.

Survivors include her nieces, Debbie Matheson and husband, Harold of Kings Mountain, Janice Barker and husband, Roy and Sandy Flowers both of Bessemer City, and Donna Hall of Lincolnton; cousins, Joel "Buggy" Blackwelder and wife, Gwynneth of Cherryville, and Billy George "Brother" Blackwelder and wife, Joyce of Pensacola, FL; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 4:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of Buggy and Gwynneth.
