Mary Frances Roberts Bumgarner, age 77 of Spruce Pine, NC formerly of Martinsville, VA entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, November 6, 2021 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. She became absent from her body here on earth and ever present with the Almighty God whom she lived to serve. She was born August 26, 1944 in Caldwell County, the baby of 11, to the late Steve Roberts and Leila Caroline Newton Roberts. She was member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church and former member of One Accord Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA. Mary devoted her life in service for God through serving others. She enjoyed visiting people in nursing homes and being a friend to all. Nana loved singing in the church choir and with groups that traveled to sing for others. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center for Bible study, crafting, and socializing. Mary had the sweetest soul and was the most humble, Christian lady. She set the best example for her daughters and granddaughters to live by.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Percy “Jim” Bumgarner, Jr.; and siblings, Clyde Roberts, Pauline Smith, Geneva Bumgarner, Oleta Harrison, John Roberts, Fred Roberts, and Hattie Smith.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Bill Clontz and Lynn and Joe Ollis; granddaughters and their husbands, Kristin and Matt Lowe, Jessica and Barry Coward, Alisha and Randall Beam, Hannah and Scott Garrett, and Lindsey and Devin Holtsclaw; great grandchildren, Austin, Haydon, Dawson, Makenlee, Ashley, Joey, Natalynn, Connor, Calvin, and Cooper; siblings, Lila Mae Harrison, Ruth Kincaid, and Jack Roberts and wife, Dana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Grassy Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine with Rev. Nathan Silver, Rev. Phillip Woods, and Rev. John Swanger officiating. Burial will follow at Grassy Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 12:00 to 12:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
