Marshall Messer

August 3, 1926 — September 28, 2014

Marshall Transon Messer, age 88 of Abernathy Dr. died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 3, 1926 in Cherokee County, SC to the late Samual Hardin and Ruthie Cordilia Shultz Messer. Marshall was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he was a POW. He was retired from Homelite as a machine operator and attended Restoring Hope Foursquare Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Robinson Messer; daughter, Sharon Cole; and siblings, James, Henry, and Ralph Messer, Lilia Brown, Ollie Brown, Sara Rice, and Iva Lee Roland.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelia Rice (Raymond) of Dallas; son, Bryan T. Messer of Gastonia; nine grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Pastor Fred Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
