Mable Louise Kiser Quickel, age 94, of Farmwood Dr., died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Carolina Care Center. She was born March 4, 1922 in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late Mike and Katie Hoover Kiser.
Mrs. Quickel was the owner of Heavner Bros. Wholesale and a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Union High School and her first place of employment was at the Esmeralda Inn in Chimney Rock. She thoroughly enjoyed socializing and being with people. Mable was an avid Atlanta Braves and American Legion Post #100 fan, and loved watching the Lawrence Welk show. The family is appreciative of the care given to her by the staff Carolina Care Center.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, David Hoke Quickel, Jr. in 1988 and four brothers
Mable is survived by her daughters, Linda Q. Whitworth (Jack) of Cherryville and Nancy Q. Koontz (Larry) of Winston Salem; five grandchildren, Doug Whitworth (Dawn) of Cherryville, Hoke Whitworth (Angie) of Cherryville, Gary Koontz(Fleta) of Winston Salem, Amanda Truesdale (Jerry) of Clemmons, and Mike Koontz (Jennifer) of Lexington; nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a sister, Sarah Brackett of Lincolnton; and her faithful caregiver, Willie Gene McCluney.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church at 2:00 PM with Dr. Eric Childers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 12:00-1:30 PM and other times at the home of Linda and Jack Whitworth.
