Loyse Smith

Loyse Hull Smith, age 95 passed peacefully into heaven on Saturday evening, February 5, 2022 at home in Land Harbor.  Loyse was born May 1, 1926 to the late Perry Hull and Junnie McNeely Hull.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Smith; and a grandson, Jonathan Beck.

Loyse worked in the insurance business until she retired.  When they moved fulltime to the mountains, she enjoyed working for a while at Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum.  She was 6 years old when her family started attending First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville.

She is survived by her son, Jerry W. Beck and his wife, Debbie W. Beck of the home; special great-grandson, Cordae Jackson of the home; special grandson, Mason Yelton of Bostic, NC; daughter, Dessa Hampton Millwood of Cherryville, NC, Helene Hampton and Sydney H. Beck of Lake Lure, NC; two special granddaughters, Melissa Beck Shankle and Stephanie Lauren Byrd.

A special thank you to Jennie L. Goodwin, FNP and medical assistants, T.J. Ollis and Elizabeth Stout of Baker Center for Primary Care, Linville, NC.  Also, a special thank you to Medi-Home Hospice and the nurse she had this week, Johnny Bear, RN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossnore Home for Children, Crossnore, NC.

Loyse was laid to rest in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 during a private graveside service officiated by Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe with music rendered by Martel Sigmon.
