Lois Bradley

March 21, 1942 — November 30, 2014

Lois graduated in 1964 from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a BS in nursing and BA in Health and Physical Education. She married Dennis Lowell Bradley, Jr. in 1964. She was a labor and delivery nurse at Cleveland Memorial Hospital and an assistant professor of nursing at Gardner Webb University before joining the nursing faculty of Gaston College for the next 26 years. In 1980, Lois earned her Masters in Education from UNC - Charlotte. In 1986, Lois became Chairperson of Nursing at Gaston College, and expertly led her faculty and students until her retirement in 2007, after which she was awarded Faculty Emeritus.

Lois was committed to service to others, through dual Eastern Star membership in Unicoi/Erwin Chapter #276 since 1960 and Cherryville Chapter #156 since 2005. She served in various positions within Cherryville's chapter, including a 2011 term as Worthy Matron. In 2013-14, Lois served as Grand Electa for the state of North Carolina. She had a particular interest in raising funds to send children to Camp Rainbow in the NC Mountains. Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville and active in their women's ministries.

On September 5, 2014, Lois and Dennis celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Lois was devoted to her family, friends, faith, and community. Lois had a passion for cooking, gardening, college football tailgating, golfing, sporting events of all kinds, and the North Carolina Mountains. She was an avid fan of the Appalachian State Mountaineers, Clemson Tigers, and Tennessee Lady Vols. Lois' grandchildren, Will and Julia, were her pride and joy. In her final weeks, Lois was cared for by many former nursing students and colleagues, who expressed the impact she made on their education and careers. This is a testament to her lasting legacy as a nurse, teacher, and mentor.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Susie and Frank Bull, and her brother, Donald Bull.

She is survived by her husband Dennis Bradley of Cherryville, her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Lainey Bradley of Cumming, Georgia, her two grandchildren, Will and Julia, and many friends.
