Lester Darty

Lester Lee Darty, Jr., age 92, of S. Main St. passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Wendover Hospice House. He was born November 1, 1926 in Gaston County to the late Lester Lee Darty, Sr. and Annie Eva Sparks Darty. Junior was a War World II veteran of the United States Army. He served two years and was stationed in Okinawa and then Korea. He retired after 30 years from Carolina Mills. Junior was a faithful member of First Wesleyan Church where he was a dedicated prayer warrior. He enjoyed reading his bible daily and loved to bird watch.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Earlene Darty; daughter, Wanda Waterson; and siblings, Clifford Darty, Brenda Waterson, and Patricia Hord.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Hamrick Darty; step-sons, Robert Wayne Wiggins (Jan) of Gastonia, Richard Wiggins (Freida) of Shelby, and Scott Wiggins of Shelby; son-in-law, Lanny Waterson; grandchildren, Dana Roper, Alex Waterson, Jeremy Wiggins, Tyler Wiggins, and Katie Thomas; siblings, Ben Richard Darty (Helga), Elby Bennett, and Betty Lynn; brother-in-law, Charles Hord; special friend, Liam; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Mark B. Poe officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
