Larry Franklin Setzer, age 82, of Lakeview Rd. passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late Glenn Lee Setzer and Hope Elizabeth Beam Lewis. Larry retired after 34 years of driving for Carolina Freight. He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army. Larry was a long time member of First Wesleyan Church and attended Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church. He was a devout Christian who loved his church and church family. He enjoyed visiting with friends, traveling, and camping. He was even known as "Camper" on the CB Radio. Larry had a talent for caring for and raising trees, including apple trees, peach trees, and pecan trees. He also made wonderful apple cider.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Clyde Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret Timmons Setzer; three daughters, Beth Vaca, Aleta Setzer, and Andrea Pruett and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Liz Vaca, Patrick Pruett, and Victoria Pruett; sister, Linda Carpenter and husband, Gene; sister-in-law, Lavonne Morgan and husband, Steve; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missionary Methodist Church Building Fund, 318 W. Ballard St. Cherryville, NC 28021.
