Kathy Smith

Kathy Slaughter Smith, age 72, of Cherryville, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at her residence. She was born March 25, 1951, in Lincoln County to the late Cramer Slaughter and Mary Slaughter.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her son, JW Smith Jr.; her brothers, Buddy Slaughter and Jakey Slaughter; and her sisters, Jane Carpenter, Evon McKinney, and Barbara Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Gantt; her sister, Carolyn Lail; her grandchildren, Travis Lee Gates, Amber Smith, Katie Whisnant, and Kimberly Faulk; and her 3 great-grandchildren.

Kathy attended Howards Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the lottery. Kathy was employed at Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 31, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Sigmon officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow at the City Memorial Cemetery.
