Joseph Bradshaw

Joseph Andrew Bradshaw, Sr. age 89, formerly of Sylva, Jackson Co., passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his apartment at Carolina Care. He was born on June 5, 1927 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late George and Bessie Bradshaw. He was raised in Washington D.C. where he won the Duncan Yo Yo championship at age 10. Joe was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a talented Artist who was a long time employee of Borghese Art Company in D.C. He was also employed by the Smithsonian Institute where he served as curator of the Renwick Gallery. He and his wife Mary moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1971. Upon his retirement from the City of Wilton Manors, Fl. he and Mary moved to North Carolina. He was fluent in sign language as both of his parents were deaf. Joe was active in the Jackson County Senior Center and enjoyed taking part in all the activities. He was a Senior Olympian winning numerous first place medals. He had two precious dogs that he loved, Rusty and Minnie Rusty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Teague Bradshaw.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl B. Jones of Boca Raton, FL; Wanda B. Crawford and husband, Joseph of Crouse, and Joe Bradshaw Jr. and wife, Mary Jane of Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren, David Jones, Lou Oliver, Bruce Jones, Robert Crawford, Andrew Crawford, Casey Crawford, Rebecca Barber, Brian Bradshaw, Christine Dalton, Katherine Corsillo, and Meghan Welch; great grandchildren, Erika Connelley, Jessica Bernhard, Derek Jones, Scott Thomas, Lauren Lanson, Melanie Oliver, Valerie Oliver, Randy Oliver, Shannon Jones, Landry Crawford, Drew Crawford, Aly Barber, Andi Barber, Harper Crawford, Max Dalton, Emily Dalton, Nicholas Corsillo, Bradley Welch, Keira Welch, and Finnegan Welch; and great great grandchild, Brantley Alan Bernhard.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Victory Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Sandy Bozeman officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by Cherryville American Legion Post #100 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherryville American Legion Post #100, 215 N. Pink Street, Cherryville NC, 28021.
