Johnnie Leonard

Johnnie Ballard Crocker Leonard, 88, of Covenant Village, formerly of Cherryville, died November 23, 2013, at her residence. She was born on October 30, 1925 in Gaston County, a daughter of the late William and Madge Putnam Ballard.

Johnnie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Cherryville and a member of the State Employees Association of North Carolina. She was a former employee of Cherryville City Schools and retired from Cleveland County Schools as the finance officer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands Hurley Dietz Crocker and Gene Leonard and a brother, Adkin Caldwell Ballard.

Survivors include her daughter, Frances Putnam Crocker of Gastonia, granddaughter, Lauren Stallings (Adam) of Raleigh, and a great-granddaughter, Clara Stallings.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday Nov. 27, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, Cherryville at 2 PM with Rev. Rick Fite officiating and a burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 1-1:45 PM.
