John Lee Black, age 96 of Tot Dellinger Rd. passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Carolina Care Health & Rehabilitation. He was born February 24, 1921 in Gaston County to the late Alfred Melton "Bud" and Annie Craft Black. John Lee was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a house carpenter by trade and enjoyed hunting and farming. John Lee was a playful soul and he loved spoiling his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Reynolds Black; daughter, Judy Beal; son-in-law, Bob Tallent; grandson, Billy Beal; brothers, Bryte, Stowe, Will, and Charles Black; and sisters, Lula Black Mary Black, Emma McSwain, and Lela McSwain.
Survivors include his daughter, Sue Tallent of Lincolnton; son-in-law, Frank Beal of Tennessee; grandchildren, Mechelle Williamson, Chad Williamson, Annie Tallent Fry and husband, Chris, Clayton Tallent and wife, Miranda, Tonja Moss and husband, Ronnie, and Shasta Beal; great grandchildren, Lanie and Travis Cash; brother-in-law, Jerry Reynolds of Crouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of John Lee at 847 Tot Dellinger Rd.
