Joe Wise

Joe David Wise, age 90, of Cherryville, passed away February 29, 2024, at his home. He was born December 18, 1933, in Lincoln County to the late Hillard B. Wise, Sr. and Ava Stroupe Wise. Joe was actively involved in the Men’s Bible Class and Men’s Club at the First Presbyterian Church. He was retired, after 20 years of service, from the Cherryville Rescue Squad. His passion was bass fishing, and he was a founder and member of Cherryville Bassmasters. He was also a member of Cherryville #505 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Oasis Temple Shrine, and the Cherryville Shrine Club. He could often be found working at the flea market. Joe served 6 years and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers after 40 years of dedicated employment. 

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Dean Mabe Wise; stepmother, Ruth Wise; and sister, Jill Wise Daggerhart.

Survivors include his children, Ruth “Jodean” Davis, and David Michael Wise; brother, Hillard B. Wise, Jr.; and granddaughter, Savannah Wise.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery, with military honors.
