Cherryville

Joe Walin Gainey, age 74, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Summit Place of Kings Mountain. He was born August 2, 1950, in Lincoln County to the late Clyde Walin and Connie Francis Alexander Gainey. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School and Appalachian State University where he majored in music. Joe was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church and faithfully served for over 45 years as the church organist. He retired from First Union in the Trust Department.

 

Survivors include his brother, Jerry Gainey of Cherryville; niece, Delena Jarvis of Cherryville; cousin, Bob Hager; and his beloved church family. 

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.

 

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. 


Inurnment will take place in the church columbarium.
