James Edge

James William Edge, 85, of Wyke Rd., Shelby, formerly of Mauney Farm Rd., Cherryville died September 6, 2016 at Wendover Hospice. He was born in Greenville County, South Carolina, a son of the late Roy and Dollie Adams Edge. James was retired textile mechanic, and attended Lincolnton Church of God and the Kings Mountain Church of God. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. He enjoyed yard sales and his family considered him one of the first American pickers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lexie Jane Nations Edge and a sister, Beulah Teague.

Survivors include his children, Vanessa E. Rollins(Rick) of Gaffney, SC and Jimmy Reece Edge(Melany) of Welcome, NC; three grandsons, Heath Rollins of Gaffney, Justin Rollins(Laura) of Gaffney, and Jared Edge(Tori) of Welcome, NC; two great grandchildren, Navy Monroe Rollins and Edge Turner Rollins; sisters, Joyce Rhyne of Shelby and Robenia Pruitt of Cherryville.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Robert Wells officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 1:00-1:45 PM.
