James E. “Jim” Eden, age 92 of Cherryville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his residence.  He was born December 18, 1931 in Crawford County, Ohio to the late Daniel Eden and Rose Mary Mauney.  Jim was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served 18 months active duty and continued his service state side as military police for a while.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal.  He was a faithful and active member of Golden Valley United Methodist Church in Bostic for 12 years. Jim was employed for 15 years with Crown Oil Company and for 25 years with Timken in North Canton, Ohio before being transferred to Denver, NC plant.  He also spent many years living in Florida and loved to travel for work and with his family.  He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Reservoir Fisherman.  He also enjoyed Pheasant hunting with his dad and brother.  He was in a bowling league and had earned many trophies as it was a great passion and talent of his. Jim was a loving grandfather and took pride in teaching his grandchildren to swim, ride bikes, taking them bowling and to play putt-putt.  He adored his family.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Kay Eden Baldridge; son-in-law, Murvel Baldridge Sr.; grandchildren, Murvel Baldridge, Jr. and Amanda Baldridge; and brother, Jospeh Eden.

 

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lois Ann McCurry Eden; children, Kimberly Ann Britton and husband, Ronald and Jamie Lloyd and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Misty Michelle Andre, Matthew Lloyd Britton, and Harley Dakota Lloyd; great grandchildren, Evan Andre, Ethan Andre, Colby Lloyd, and Ryleigh Lloyd; sisters-in-law, Betty Schronce and Vickie Schrum and husband, Don; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, 258 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054.
