Jack Scism

August 15, 1940 — December 24, 2020

Jack Harmon Scism, age 80 of Waco passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Atrium Health Cleveland.  He was born August 15, 1940 in Cleveland County to the late Elbert Joseph and Helen Louise Cash Scism.  Jack was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  After 32 years, he retired as a dispatcher from Carolina Freight.  After retirement, he went on to run The Mattress Store in Forest City and Shelby along with wife, Betty Sue and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Margie Angel.  Jack enjoyed breeding, raising and showing Pygmy Goats at fairs all around.  He was a member of the National Pygmy Goat Association.  Jack was also an avid sports fan and especially loved the Atlantic Braves and the Carolina Tarheels.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Della Faye Murray.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Sue Black Scism; son, Josh Scism; daughter, Angie Scism and husband, Don Mason; grandchildren, Summer Bachman and husband, Jesse and Fitzhugh McMurry III and wife, Ashley; great grandchildren, Eli Bachman, Emerson McMurry, and Lyla McMurry; and a host of wonderful extended family and friends.

An outdoor Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 4, 2020 at the Capernaum Cemetery Arbor with Rev. Travis Mull and Rev. Jack Calloway officiating. Social distancing and face coverings are requested.
