Harold Canipe

Harold Gene Canipe, age 77 of Dave Heafner Rd. passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System, Lincolnton. He was born August 17, 1940 in Lincoln County to the late Wilburn and Julia Lucille Christopher Canipe. Harold was the former owner and manager of Cat Square Superette. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and attended Anthony Grove Baptist Church. He was a knife enthusiast and enjoyed collecting coins. Harold was also a poet who wrote many poems for friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Lester Canipe, Sam Canipe, Iva Lee Goins, and Mildred Scronce.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Sue Heafner Canipe; sons, Eddie Canipe and Michael Canipe, both of Crouse; daughters, Lori Matney and husband, Timothy of Lincolnton and Elizabeth Godfrey and fiancé, Quinton Rayfield of Vale; grandchildren, Tryston, Leah, and Ava; siblings, Wilma Sain and husband, Buddy, Clara Cloninger, and Jerry Canipe and wife, Annette; sister-in-law, Gail Canipe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Ken Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
