Geraldine Hovis

Geraldine Eaker Hovis, age 95, of Gastonia, passed away June 8, 2023, at Morningside of Gastonia.  She was born April 24, 1928, in Gaston County to the late Robert Lee and Leona Kiser Eaker.  Geraldine was a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church.  She was a homemaker extraordinaire who enjoyed baking, candy making, canning and sewing.  Geraldine also loved working with her flowers and helping her husband on the farm.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William “Wade” Hovis; brother, Bobbie Lewis Eaker; and sister, Lucille Eaker Hovis.

Survivors include her sons, Jim Hovis and wife, Becky of Charlotte, and Frank Hovis and wife, Leigh Anne of Gastonia; daughter, Marie Hovis Swift and husband, Steve of Bessemer City; sister, Rebekah Lynch; grandchildren, Sarah Egnor (Hunter), Thomas Hovis (Lisa), Emily Bradford (Jesse), Jonathan Hovis (Melissa), Erin Dunaway (Wes), Martin Hovis (Jenni), Andrew Swift (Halie), and Lindsay Mincey (Jordan); and great grandchildren, Libby Jane, Caroline, Harrison, Grayson, Davis, Emma, Hayes, Austen, Elizabeth, Ella Scot, Thornton, Wells, Jameson, Willa and Giles.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 2:30PM at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Van Spencer and Rev. Claudia Harrelson officiating.
