Gerald Lorrel Veeder, age 89, of Kenwood Ave., formerly of Roy Eaker Rd. died Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Atrium Health, Lincoln. He was born February 9, 1932 in McKenzie County, North Dakota to the late Rev. Benjamin Herbert and Rena Rolfsrud Veeder. Gerald was a longtime active member of First Wesleyan Church where he formerly served as Treasurer and on the Church Board. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. Gerald grew up in North Dakota. While attending college in Indiana, he met the love of his life, Nancy McGinnis. They moved backed to her hometown of Cherryville, NC where they lived and raised their family. Gerald was employed for 32 years with Carolina Freight. He was an avid reader, especially Zane Grey novels. He was a fan of Tony Bennett music and Atlanta Braves Baseball. Gerald enjoyed traveling and visited many locations including Norway, Alaska, Hawaii, and numerous trips out West. He was a lover of knowledge and had a memory that never failed. He was loved by all who knew him and was the definition of a good, Godly man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nancy McGinnis Veeder.
Survivors include his daughters, Pamela Maze (Chris) of Richmond, VA, and Teresa Agner (Doug) of Cherryville; grandchildren, Caitlyn Maze, Luke Maze (Michelle Tankesley), Lauren Maze, Brooke Christian (Clayton), and Ben Agner (Mary Kate Lane) and Betsy Agner (Aaron Putnam); great-grandchildren, Harper Christian, Ellie Christian, Elizabeth Agner, and Aubrey Putnam; brother, Rev. Benjamin D. Veeder of Lenore, ID; and double first cousins, David Veeder (Linnea) and Rose Veeder.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 4:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Mark B. Poe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:30 to 3:45 PM at the church prior to the service.
