Gerald Newton

Gerald "The Legend" Hale Newton, 65 of Delview Rd., died July 1, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 24, 1949 in Rutherford Co. a son of the late Lee and Ruth Atchley Newton.

Gerald was a member of the First Baptist Church and retired driver for Southland Transportation. He was formerly employed at Carolina Freight and The Dora Mill. He enjoyed life, adored his granddaughter and all of his family.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters Joann Padgett and Jane Robinson.

Survivors include his son Jason Newton and wife Bobbie of Waco, granddaughter Taylor Elizabeth Newton, sister Janet Fulton of Waco and a brother Jeff Newton and wife Vickie of Cherryville.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Sunday at First Baptist Church from 2-3:15 and other times at the home of Jason and Bobbie Newton, Waco, NC.
