George Hancock, Jr.

George William Hancock, Jr., 74, of Craig St., died January 28, 2015 at Carolina Healthcare Systems Cleveland. He was born on July 15, 1940 in Cleveland Co. a son of, the late George William and Audrey Carroll Hancock, Sr.

Junior was a retired long line driver for Carolina Freight Carriers, member of the First Wesleyan Church, of the Teamsters Local #61, and Cherryville AM & FM #505. He took great pride in his red truck.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Charles Hancock.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Jane Pruitte Hancock, children Theresa Abernethy (Rodney) of Cherryville, Joey Hancock (Wanda) of Cherryville and Gary Dean Hancock (Lisa) of Cherryville, five grandchildren Jason Hancock, Hannah Short, Kelsey Price, Zachary Hancock, and Kinzy Hancock, two great grandchildren Lane and Jase Hancock, and three sisters Betty Beatty, Kings Mountain, Doris Bridges, Waco and Barbara Hancock, Waco.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at First Wesleyan church with Rev. Mark Poe and Rev. Edwin Chriscoe, officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at Carpenter's Funeral and Cremation Services from 6-8 PM and other times at the home. Masonic rites by Cherryville AM & FM Lodge #505.
