George Foster

November 8, 1930 — December 6, 2020

George Junior Foster, age 90, of Brookdale Senior Living, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born November 8, 1930, in Gaston County to the late Tommy Robert and Azzalee Whetstine Foster.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melody Danette Foster Trakas.

George was a hard worker at his job, as a loom fixer, at the Osage Mill in Bessemer City, NC. He worked closely with his good friend and co-worker Charlie Nash who died last fall.  He really loved having a big garden and sharing what he grew. He loved to cook and made up some excellent recipes and he learned to decorate cakes.  He loved animals and raised Shetland sheep dogs and birds. He always had lots of cats around and had some favorites through the years: Orangie and Gray were two of his favorites and they loved him. George knew how to install furnaces and gutters and did that as a sideline for quite a while.  He loved cutting the grass in his large yard, riding around on his lawnmower. He took a pottery class at Gaston College and made and sold many pieces. One excellent one is a replica of his church, Concord United Methodist Church. He also loved to sing and was a member of the Concord Church choir many years ago. He and his wife did some traveling with Christian bus tours and visited many places. He also visited Hawaii and Alaska where one daughter lived. He lived a long and full life and was looking forward to seeing his daughter Melody in Heaven

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 71 years, Angelita Harrelson Foster; daughter and son-in-law, Sydney Ann Foster Jenkins and husband, Michael of Chapel Hill; grandsons, Charles Manning Trakas, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Michael David Jenkins, Winter Garden, Florida.

A private burial will be held at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bessemer City, NC.
