George David Dover, 86, of West Old Post Road, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 16, 1928 to the late Ralph David and May Elizabeth Herndon Dover. He graduated from Waco High School in 1947. He was a member of First Baptist Church. George was a lifetime dairy farmer and had been very active in the National Dairy Herd Information Association (DHIA) and the Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association. He was a very devoted husband, father, and PawPaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty Jean Russ Dover; son-in-law, Steve Dixon; and brother, Frank Dover.
Survivors include his daughters, Dianne D. Dixon, Amelia Wilson and husband, Jr., Ginger Norman and husband, Donny, and Robin Davis and husband, Wes; grandchildren, Tommy Huffstetler (Missy), Shane Huffstetler (Dee Anna), Justin Norman (Mandi), Summer Norman (Jamie Owen), Megan Davis (Josh Moore) and Russ Davis; great grandchildren, Monica Causby, Cody Huffstetler, Levi Huffstetler, Lucus Huffstetler, Hannah Huffstetler, Logan Huffstetler, and Gianna Brooke Moore; sisters, Mary Newton, Pratt Howell, and Ann Beard; brother, Todd Dover; and special friends & in-laws, Wayne and Ann Brown, Kenneth and Louise Russ, Christine Dover, and Louise Russ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, COC Building, 301 East Church Street, Cherryville, NC 28021.
