George Carpenter

February 22, 1930 — October 5, 2015

George William "Bill" Carpenter, 85 of Bates Ave. died Monday, October 05, 2015 at Carolina Care Center. He was born on February 22, 1930 in Gaston County to the late Jake and Louise George Carpenter. Bill was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post # 100, VFW, and the Lion's Club. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He had an interest in Civil War History and would often draw pictures depicting Civil War scenes. He was a wonderful artist who was also known for his cartoon drawings on birthday cards that he sent to friends and family. Bill retired after 30 years from Carolina Freight in the Teletype department. He enjoyed Jazz and Blues music. He had a deep love for animals and especially for his dog, Sadie May; cat, Sammy; and his late dog, George Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous uncles, and an aunt.

Survivors include his aunt, Teeny G. Schronce; cousins, Phyllis Whitesides, Jim Beam, and Luandra McNeely all of Cherryville; and special family friend, Evelyn Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 12:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Eric Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by Cherryville American Legion Post # 100. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 11:00 to 11:45 AM prior to the service in the Vida Dellinger Parlor at St. John's.
