Fred Dellinger

November 29, 1924 — June 6, 2013

Fred Owen Dellinger, Sr., 88, of 1110 Sunset Rd. died June 6, 2013 at his residence. He was born on Nov. 29, 1924 in Morganton, NC a son of the late Nathaniel Marcus and Callie Dellinger Dellinger.

Mr. Dellinger faithfully served his country in the US Army Air Corp, 3rd Emergency Rescue Squad during WW II and a was a graduate of Brevard College where he met and married his wife of 64 years Dixie May Gibbs in Hendersonville, NC on Sept. 17,1948. Fred was the retired Safety and Personnel Director for Custom Transport, member of St. John's Lutheran Church, member of the VFW, member and past president of NC Trucking Association Safety Council, and a 32 degree Mason. Fred enjoyed reading and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie May Dellinger, three children Fred O. Dellinger, Jr., of Moravian Falls, NC, Ann D. Harrelson (James) of Cherryville, and Joy D. Wilcox(late husband Odell) of Asheville, six grandchildren: Nathan Harrelson of Cherryville, Russell Harrelson(Amanda) of Vale, Amanda Dayvault(Max) of Landis, Seth Harrelson(Meggan) of Cherryville, Elizabeth Dellinger(Sharlena Thomas) of Asheville and James Gibbs Dellinger(Melissa) of Winston Salem, and three great grandchildren Dayne and Parker Harrelson and Caroline Dayvault.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:30 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Dr. Eric Childers officiating with burial in church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday in the church Parlor from 2-3:15 PM and at other times at the home.
