Elsie Mae Bess Hord, 98, of Eaker Rd. died March 30, 2014 at the Brian Center, Lincolnton
She was born on Nov. 6, 1915 in Gaston Co. a daughter of the late William Lewis and Bertie Jane Mauney Bess.
Mrs. Hord was a lifetime and dedicated member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and retired from Fasco. Mawmaw, as she was affectionately known by her family, was respected and admired by many. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, excellent cook and a very loving and caring person.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Pinkney Hord, a daughter Brenda Haynes, and a sister Gladys Sellers.
Survivors include her daughter Martha Huss(Bob) of Lincolnton and Myra Carson(Rick) of Gastonia, son in law Tommy Haynes(Anne), four grandchildren Jodi Hofberg(Karl) of Graham, Eric Haynes of Kings Mountain, Michael Carson of Gastonia and Megan Carson of Gastonia, two great grandchildren Jacob Hofberg and Carson Epps, three step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren and a brother Robert Lewis Bess of Cherryville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 2 PM with Rev. Keith Hollar and Rev. Robert Redding officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Shady Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center from 6-8 PM and at other times at her home.
