Edythe Beam Carpenter, 98, of Tryon Courthouse Rd., died January 20, 2016 at Peak Resources, Cherryville. She was born in Gaston County on April 13, 1917, a daughter of the late Herbert Tracey "H. T" and Annie Paysour Beam. Mrs. Carpenter was the oldest charter member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church where she proudly and faithfully was in charge of the flower arrangements for almost fifty years and taught Sunday school. Edythe was the consummate dairy farmer's wife, growing flowers, canning, gardening and sewing.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Olin Daniel Carpenter in 1993, and Sisters, Maxine B. Glover and Eula Beam.
Survivors include her children, Judy Carpenter Cook and husband Lanny of Bessemer City and Danny Carpenter and wife Ann of Bakersville; four grandchildren, Leslie Homesley and husband Alan, Denise Surber and husband Darrell, David Carpenter and Anna Keziah all of Bessemer City; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Madge Beam Carpenter of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 24 at 2:30 PM at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. Rev. Fain Farmer, Rev. Keith Hollar and Rev. Lanny Cook will be officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Fellowship hall Sunday from 1:00PM - 2:15PM
