Edward Jack Nolen, age 89 of W. 2nd St. died Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. He was born on June 29, 1925 in Knoxville, TN. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church and a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M., and member of American Legion Post #100. He was a graduate of Newton Conover High School, retired from Carolina Freight, and an avid golfer. Jack was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Sue Yancey Nolen; children, Mary Lane McGinnis and husband, Tony of Knoxville, TN, Edward Keith Nolen and wife, Lynne of Lincolnton, and Allyson Prescott and husband, Phil of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, John McGinnis and wife, Tarin, Valerie McGinnis, Amy McGinnis, Grayson Nolen, Katie Nolen, Mary Kate Bobbitt, Meredith Bobbitt, Meghan Bobbitt, Amelia Bobbitt, and Phillip Prescott; great grandson, Cameron McGinnis; and half-brother, Scott Helms of Newton.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Fite officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 AM prior to the service at the church.
