Earl Edward Hallman, age 75, formerly of Dallas Cherryville Hwy died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Summit Place of Kings Mountain. He was born on November 20, 1939 in Gaston County to the late Audie and Myrtle Victoria Metcalf Hallman. Earl received a Master's Degree from Appalachian State Teachers College and was an excellent educator and leader of young minds at numerous elementary schools in Gaston County. He was a beloved principal who served at Cherryville East Elementary School where he was known for dressing as Cat in the Hat and always there to open car doors for the students. Mr. Hallman then went on to become the personnel director for Gaston County Schools where he was very instrumental in guiding new teachers. After his retirement, Earl joined the staff at Carpenter's Funeral Home. Earl would always have himself a birthday party at the Mary Ellen Nelson Center and instruct the guests to bring Christmas gifts for the residents there. He was very involved with the Special Olympics. He became very active in the Senior Citizens Center of Dallas as well as various churches. Earl also spent time as a director on tour buses. He was a singer and entertainer and he enjoyed teaching classes for Line Dancing. Earl was so full of life and such a joy to be around.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Hallman and Ralph "Ikey" Hallman; and sister, Wilma Henkle.
Survivors include his caregivers, niece Bobbie Jean Gantt and husband, June and niece Kay Hallman and husband, Ken; sisters, Carrie Willis and Mary Lou Sherrill; brother, Bob Hallman; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cindy Spicer and Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
