Dorothy "Dot" Adeline Seagle Putnam, 84, of Jacob St., died June 1, 2015 on her birthday at Peak Resources, Cherryville. She was born in Gaston County to the late Murle Everdell and Nellie Bryte Heafner Seagle.
Dot was a retired comptroller with 36 years of service at Sweetree Mfg. in Cherryville and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church since 1947. Mrs. Putnam found great enjoyment from nature; one could always find her with hands in the dirt planting wildflowers or making her own dried flower arrangements. She was a Master Gardener and charter member of Foothill Herb Society and a charter member of Gaston County Master Gardners. She was a bridge player and an avid reader. She could often be found at Roma Italia restaurant reading books from the Cherryville Public Library and drinking sweet tea.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by son, John Wesley Putnam, 1986; and siblings, Murle Seagle, Jr, and Nancy Seagle Carlson.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, James Putnam, Sr.; son, James "Al" Putnam, Jr, and wife, Lyn of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren, Courtney Anne Putnam of Lawton, OK, and James "Jay" Putnam, III of Stillwater, OK; and her care giver, Mamie Richardson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Eric Childers officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at Carpenter's Funeral and Cremation Services from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at other times at the home.
