Doris Smith Mauney

Doris Rine Smith Mauney, age 82, formerly of Moose St., passed away June 17, 2024, at Peak Resources in Cherryville. Doris was born on March 3, 1942, in Gaston County to the late Guy Daniel Smith and Rosie Corine Smith Smith. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Doris could often be found shopping and was known as the QVC Shopping Queen. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, more than anything in the world. She was affectionately known as “Gmaw” by her grandkids. Doris was a big fan of bluegrass music. She was a school bus driver for many years, and she has worked at Audie’s BBQ, Bloomin Things Florist, and Triple H Restaurant. During her time at Peak Resources, Doris was known as the mayor and hall monitor.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Lee “Pete” Mauney; and her son, Noah Daniel “Dan” Mauney. The family are all looking forward to the day they are reunited with Doris, Pete, and Dan, in Heaven.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark Mauney (Dawn), Barbara Mauney McDaniel, and Ann Davis (Jeff); grandchildren, Josh Mauney (Katelyn), Drew Mauney, Kristen Bennett (Wes), Dr. Justin McDaniel, Nick Davis, and Jacob Davis; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor Davis, Noah Davis, and Chranson Mauney.

A Graveside Service will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 11:00 AM Thursday, June 20, 2024, with Rev. Keith Hollar, Rev. G. Scott Homesley, and Rev. Keith Huss officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Wednesday June 19, 2024, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home.
