Della Covette Tate, age 57, departed this life Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Della was born April 10, 1966, in Shelby, NC to the late Frances and Cole L. Tate.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, two sisters, Janice Hamilton, and Alice Littlejohn, both of Shelby, NC; a brother, Leon Tate of Shelby, NC; three aunts, Betty Hogue of Cleveland, OH, Louise Montgomery of Philadelphia, PA, Edna Johnson of Shelby, NC; and uncle, Freeman Tate, Jr. of Shelby, NC.
Della was the granddaughter of the late Jessie Lee McClinton Sr. and wife, Betsy Mae Patterson, of Shelby, NC (maternal); and William Freeman Sr. and wife Idella Rogers, of Lattimore, NC (paternal).
She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas L. Tate of Shelby, NC; aunts, Darlene Fears of Cleveland, OH, Glenda Tate, and Essie Patterson of Shelby, NC; and uncle, Jessie McClinton of Hickory, NC.
Della attended North Shelby School and later moved to Charlotte, NC where she worked in various restaurants and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels. She loved helping others and always smiled, with love in her eyes.
She was beloved by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and two special friends, Tammy Cunningham and Emily Blake, who helped care for her for many years.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 at 2:15 PM at Washington Missionary Baptist Church. Quiet hours will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 1718 Kings Rd. in Shelby, NC at other times.
