Dean Raines

Dennis Dean Raines, 69 of Cherryville passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Carolina Care in Cherryville. He was born June 15, 1948 in Richmond County to the late Ransom and Mary Belle McCaskill Raines. Dean graduated from Hamlet High School Class of '66 and Appalachian Class of '70 where he met his bride Becky of 48 years. Dean was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and was a mason and a shriner. He was a dispatcher at Carolina Freight, truck driver, and taught truck driving at Caldwell Community College. Dean also helped in his dad's tobacco warehouse. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he enjoyed woodworking. Dean never met a stranger and was a friend to many.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Rebecca Rudisill Raines, Dean is survived by his two children, Jason Raines and wife, Stacey of Cherryville and Jennifer Long and husband, Brian of Rutherfordton; and grandchildren, Emma and Luke Long, Ryan and Ian Powers, and Caleb and Grayson Raines.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 4:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Gantt and Rev. Stephen Littlejohn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services.
