Walter Dixon “Curt” Bess, age 85, of Waco, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born December 23, 1936 in Cleveland County to the late Daniel Rush “Tom” and Blanche Canipe Bess. Curt was a veteran of the United States Navy where he ran a print shop. He continued the occupation in the printing department with Carolina Freight for more than 30 years. Curt was an outdoorsman and loved the beach. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Curt’s greatest love was for his family, and he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, who passed only 20 days prior, Frankie Dellinger Bess; and siblings, Paul Bess, Bruner Bess, Wayne Bess, Tom Bess, Sethelle Hoyle, Sue Dycus, and Maxine Wilson.
Survivors include his children, Roxanne Bess, Tony Bess (Sheila), and Star B. Shipley (Mike); grandchildren, Joshua Bess, Xerek Shipley, and Kai Shipley; sister, Jeanette Bridges; brother-in-law, Jack Dellinger; sisters-in-law, Gay Ramsey and Kathy Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Keith Huss officiating.
